Swilcan Stables LLC’s homebred filly Vedareo won her debut in eye-catching fashion on June 14 at Parx, scoring a front-running victory by two lengths in the 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies (WATCH RACE).
The dark bay youngster is a half-sister to Swilcan’s 2020 Eclipse Award winning 2-year-old filly Vequist. The farm tragically lost their dam Vero Amore to colic earlier this year.
Vedareo, like Vequist, is trained by Butch Reid, Jr. With a series of sharp workouts, Vedareo was sent away as the odds-on favorite in Tuesday’s seventh race. Vedareo, in the outside post in the field of eight, made the lead in the first sixteenth and opened up a sizeable margin on the turn.
In the stretch Bet of the Century made a move for the lead, but Vedareo was being hand-ridden, and under a little urging by Frankie Pennington in the final sixteenth, pulled away again to win easily in :52.62 on a fast track.
Vedareo’s victory was worth $25,200. In addition to Vequist, Vedareo is a half-sister to 2021 Schuylerville S. (G2) runner-up Mainstay. Vero Amore also foaled an Accelerate filly in 2021.
